Course Purpose

This course is designed to facilitate the acquisition of knowledge, skills and attitudes on comparative Education and Internationalization 

 

 

Course Learning Outcomes

CLO 1: Explain the major concepts and developments in comparative Education.

CLO 2: Discuss the theoretical approaches and research methods in comparative education

CLO 3: Compare and contrast education systems in different contexts 

CLO 4: Assess the impact of globalization on education.

 

Course Content

This module introduces you to comparative education combining theory and practice to equip you with knowledge, skills, attitudes and values needed to make you an effective teacher in an increasingly globalized world. 

This module covers; the concept of comparative education, actors and purposes in comparative education and the nature/dimensions of comparative education. 

You will explore the historical development of comparative education and the contributions of pioneer scholars such as The concept of comparative education;  Actors and purpose of  comparative education, nature/dimensions  of comparative education, historical development of comparative education- stages of development, contributions of Marc Antoinne ,Julien de paris, Michael Sadler  and Mathew Arnold 

The module ,also covers the following comparison; places ,systems, policies curricula, pedagogical innovations. 

You will also study the Theoretical approaches in comparative education, methods of studying of comparative education, determinants of national systems of education before moving to a comparative study of national educational systems around the world: United states of America, Cuba, China Japan, Finland, South Africa, Somalia. 

You will end the course by looking at globalization and education. Throughout the module, you will develop core competencies including critical thinking, reflective practice, collaboration, effective communication, problem-solving, and ethical decision-making, while embracing professional values such as integrity, accountability, equity, and commitment to quality education. These skills and values will prepare you to function effectively as a teacher and leader in schools.
