Course Purpose

The purpose of this course is to empower you to translate ethical principles into your daily teaching practice. It is designed to equip you with the critical inner compass and interpersonal skills needed to navigate the teaching profession with integrity and resilience. In this module, you will learn to enhance your interpersonal skills, establish a strong ethical framework for decision-making, and cultivate your reflective practice by analyzing real-world scenarios to understand the human dimension of the teaching profession. You are encouraged to embrace the reflective nature of this course. Be prepared to examine your own beliefs, engage in respectful dialogue with your peers, and remain open to new perspectives that will shape you into a more thoughtful and effective teacher.

Identify the relationship between personal life skills and professional teaching effectiveness. Explain personal strengths and growth areas in relation to core life skills competencies. Apply basic self-awareness strategies to reflect on personal readiness for teaching.
  2. Self-Awareness and Emotional Intelligence: Identify personal emotional triggers, cognitive biases, and their potential impact on classroom interactions. Describe the components of Emotional Intelligence in an educational context. Apply strategies for self-regulation and empathetic response to de-escalate tense classroom situations. Develop a personal plan for ongoing development of a specific Emotional Intelligence competency.
  3. Communication Skills for Educational Contexts: Differentiate between passive, assertive, and aggressive communication styles in teaching scenarios. Demonstrate active listening skills in simulated parent-teacher conversations. Apply communication strategies for diverse stakeholders including learners, parents, and colleagues. Evaluate personal communication effectiveness through video-recorded practice sessions.
  4. Collaboration and Teamwork in Educational Settings: Describe characteristics of effective educational teams and factors that enable or hinder collaboration. Analyse your own wellbeing using a holistic framework to identify areas of strength and those requiring attention. Develop a personalised, actionable plan for sustaining wellbeing and cultivating resilience in the teaching career.
