Course Purpose
The purpose of this course is to appraise knowledge, skills, and attitudes on the application of engineering design techniques in real-life situations.
Course Learning Outcomes
CLO1: Explain design methodologies and concepts used in engineering design.
CLO 2: Analyze Sustainable design, lifecycle assessment, and manufacturability optimization in engineering design.
CLO 3: Apply design methodologies and tools used in engineering design.
CLO 4: Develop engineering design techniques used in real-world engineering projects, such as automotive and auto-electronics.
Course Content
Design Thinking and Innovation: Principles of design thinking and creativity techniques for problem-solving, Theory of Inventive Problem Solving (TRIZ), Computer-Aided Design (CAD) and Modeling: Advanced CAD techniques for 3D modeling, parametric design, and assembly modeling, generative design tools. Finite Element Analysis (FEA) and Simulation: FEA principles and analysis methods for structural, thermal, and fluid dynamics simulations. Design for Manufacturing and Assembly (DFMA): DFMA principles of product manufacturability, assembly, lead time, waste, and environmental impact, Design Material; composite materials, smart materials, and nano-materials, Sustainability and Lifecycle Assessment (SLA): Principles of SLA methodologies, environmental impact, energy efficiency, circular economy principles. Design Validation; physical testing, simulation validation, and virtual prototyping, reliability principles, performance, failure analysis. Design Management: planning, scheduling, and executing design projects. Intellectual Property and Design Protection: patents, trademarks, copyrights, Ethical considerations, safety, privacy, and social responsibility.
