Course Purpose

This course is designed to equip educators with the knowledge, skills, and professional competencies required to promote safe, healthy, and supportive learning environments. It aims to build educators’ capacity to prevent risks, respond effectively to emergencies, and integrate occupational safety and health principles into everyday school practices to enhance learner well-being and educational outcomes.

  1. Analyze key concepts, principles, and components of occupational safety and health in school environments.
  2.  Evaluate the relationships between health literacy, determinants of health, and safe learning environments.
  3. Apply occupational safety and health practices to manage emergencies and injuries in school settings.
  4.  Design strategies for integrating safety and health practices into diverse educational contexts.
 

Course Content

This course introduces educators to the principles and practices of occupational safety and health within school settings, focusing on learner well-being and safe learning environments. 

Module 1 provides an overview of comprehensive school health and safety, emphasizing emotional well-being and stress management. 

Module 2 explores health literacy and the determinants of health, enabling learners to interpret health information and promote informed decision-making. 

Module 3 focuses on school emergencies and first aid, equipping learners with knowledge of emergency preparedness, response planning, and basic first aid skills. 

Module 4 addresses the management of injuries, including handling burns, fractures, bleeding, and medical emergencies through practical scenarios.
