Course Description

This course, entirely delivered online, aims to equip you with a comprehensive understanding of French language teaching methodologies and curriculum designs. Spanning 10 interactive modules, the course provides the knowledge and skills needed to prepare, plan, and teach the French language effectively.

Each module includes engaging content, practical examples, and activities to ensure active learning. You are expected to complete all modules and assessments, including reflective exercises designed to enhance critical thinking and the application of concepts.

Assessment: Coursework (assessed through quizzes, assignments, and practical projects) constitutes 50% of the final grade, while the remaining 50% is evaluated through a final exam to measure comprehensive understanding. The course emphasizes accessibility and flexibility, allowing participants to learn at their own pace while adhering to set deadlines.

Throughout this course, we will cover the following core areas of French language instruction:

• Curriculum & Design: Understanding French language teaching curriculums, learning designs in Kenya (CBC Elements, KICD designs), components of design, and lesson planning.
• Foundations of Teaching: Exploring the unique features of French phonetics, grammar, and syntax that require special attention when teaching French as a foreign language.
• The Four Language Skills: Approaches to teaching listening, speaking, reading, and writing, with an emphasis on integrating these skills for communicative purposes.
• Pronunciation & Vocabulary: Teaching pronunciation and intonation to master the sounds and rhythm of the French language, alongside techniques for vocabulary acquisition.
• Grammar & Feedback: Strategies for facilitating grammar comprehension in a student-centered manner, conducting error analysis, and providing corrective feedback.
• Modern Pedagogical Approaches: Implementing Task-Based Language Teaching (TBLT) and Content-Based Instruction (CBI) to encourage active engagement.
• Digital Integration: Utilizing digital tools, language-learning apps, multimedia content, and online platforms to enhance teaching effectiveness.
