This module introduces mental health, psychosocial wellbeing, trauma exposure, and the broad impact of trauma-exposed work. Participants learn to define mental health and psychosocial wellbeing, understand how work-related trauma exposure affects wellbeing, relationships, decision-making and work functioning, distinguish common stress responses from signs that additional support is needed, and recognise seeking support as a strength. Includes a case study, "Amina's week," and concludes with a Personal Stress Reflection and Self-check.
This module helps participants distinguish ordinary stress, burnout, compassion fatigue and secondary traumatic stress. Topics include stress responses at work (fight, flight, freeze and fawn), burnout from prolonged workplace stress, compassion fatigue, secondary traumatic stress, and early warning signs, illustrated through the case study "Daniel's warning signs." Participants practise the 3-Step Pause and complete a personal early warning signs map.
This module moves from recognition to practice, covering types of self-care, emotional regulation, grounding techniques (including the 5-4-3-2-1 practice), box breathing, choosing the right tool for the moment, and setting healthy boundaries. Participants build a personal Self-Care Menu and commit to a one-week self-care plan.
This module supports workers to provide safe, basic psychosocial support to colleagues or affected people while staying within role boundaries. It covers the Psychological First Aid steps of Look, Listen and Link, supportive communication that protects dignity, safety and choice, what to say and avoid saying, referral pathways, and privacy and safety. Participants complete a supportive conversation practice and a personal support boundaries reflection.
This final module consolidates learning across the course, covering resilience, protective factors, workplace support systems, and referral pathways. Participants develop a Personal Wellbeing Plan covering self-care, support, boundaries and referral, and complete a final course integration activity.
Awarded as a Certificate of Participation upon completion of all five modules and their practical activities.
