The purpose of this course is to explore the acquisition of knowledge, skills and attitudes on Faith and Reason in Religious Education.

By the end of the course, you should be able to:

ELO2. Apply critical thinking and reflective reasoning to analyse different perspectives on faith and reason, identifying both the strengths and limitations of these approaches.

ELO3. Integrate faith-based and rational arguments into discussions about contemporary ethical, social, and political issues, demonstrating balanced judgment and problem-solving abilities.

ELO4. Design a guideline to foster a respectful attitude towards diverse beliefs and opinions, promoting intellectual humility, empathy, and open-mindedness in both personal and group settings.

 Faith and reason in early modern philosophy (Descartes, Kant). Faith, Reason, and Science. Subtopics: The rise of the scientific method and its challenge to religious authority. The Galileo affair and the conflict thesis. Modern approaches: science and religion in dialogue.
