Course Content
Introduction to the Old Testament. Overview: Definition, structure, and canon of the Old Testament. Subtopics: Overview of the Pentateuch, Historical Books, Wisdom Literature, and Prophets. Creation Narratives and Theological Themes. Overview: The creation narratives in Genesis 1-3. Subtopics: Theological themes of creation, humanity, and stewardship. The Patriarchs: Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, and Joseph. Overview: The stories of the patriarchs and their significance in the covenant. Subtopics: The Abrahamic Covenant, faith, family dynamics, and legacy. The Exodus and Covenant at Sinai. Overview: The liberation of Israel from Egypt and the Sinai covenant. Subtopics: Moses, the Ten Commandments, and the development of Israelite law. The Conquest and Settlement in the Promised Land. Overview: Joshua, Judges, and the establishment of Israel in Canaan. Subtopics: Theological themes of conquest, justice, and God's promises. Kingship and Prophecy: From Saul to Solomon. Overview: The establishment of the monarchy in Israel.; Subtopics: Kingship, leadership, and the role of prophets. The Divided Kingdom: Israel and Judah.
